[You know what happens when you give two curious teenagers time to formulate an idea? Trouble.

Lots of it. The video shows Ilex Forest and the back of one Dave Strider as he whistles sharply to the Cranidos beside him. He's not alone there's a Jane Crocker to his left with another Cranidos. There's a thud as their pokemon hit the trees with their heads. At first nothing happens then an angry looking pineco drops out onto the grass.

Dave blinks.] What the tap dancing christ?

Oh! It's a Pokemon we haven't seen before! Let's see.. [She's fishing out her gear while approaching the Pineco, as it's actually really difficult to tell if it's expression is angry or not; it always looks a bit mad, especially compared to the dex image. The sudden glowing is a concern though, that has Jane taking a step back.] What in the --

[Boom. It knocks both of them back, sending Dave butt over heels to slam his back into the grass. The explosion shakes the trees and a ring of Pineco hit the ground. All at once they start to glow and he surges up covering the pokemon and Jane with a curse before the screen goes white.]

It looked pretty nasty, too. Completely whited out the screen.

I'm sorry to worry you. [She gives a small laugh, but she's sniffing back some tears. Explosions like that and just the idea that things could have been worse are making her feel childishly scared.]

I think we're done with the forest for the day, or at least in headbutting trees.

Good. Take some time off, have a snack or some shit. Sounds like you deserve it.

[He's assuming it reminds her of those assassination attempts, but it's just about the same thing.]

Right, right. I'm thinking baking a reward for the big damn hero will help us both feel better. [It sure as fuck does and really, she just wants to hug her Dad and let him tell her how she'll always be safe no matter what and then they will watch some silly stand up videos of her Poppop and have popcorn.]

[If he were there, Dirk might actually give her a hug. It will just have to wait until they meet face-to-face again.] Sure as hell would.

[She would relish that hug; for now, she'll have to just latch onto Dave for those instead.] I think the first stop is to the Center though. We both feel fine, but getting a check up is better than finding something later.

[Dave is an acceptable substitute for Strider hugs.] Better safe, I guess. [Says the kid who has had to self-diagnose all his life.]

[It's after a few moments of quiet, simply still regathering herself, before Jane speaks again.] After all that, I want to ask how things are going on your end. No tree bombs, I hope?

Nah, nothing like that. We're traveling. I'm catching up on my levels and badges and shit, Aradia's been asking about borrowing some pokemon for breeder shit. She and Jake had fun doing their Indiana Jones thing together.

Good, good.. it sounds like you're all having fun, at least! ... I miss you all. [Not that the trip wasn't good for clearing her head, or that she's having no fun with Dave, but Jake and Dirk really are two of her closest friends.]

I'd say we are. You planning on rejoining us any time soon?

As soon as I get this blasted badge. I'm still trying to get strong enough, but I think I should be ready soon!

The hive badge. The leader uses bug type Pokemon, and I only had one fire type when I arrived, who had only hatched roughly a week before.

And there's where my gratuitous amounts of Fire pokemon will come in handy. I have to manage the Zephyr badge first, though. Apparently I'll get to be linear about this shit.

That one requires a teammate who can deal with birds. Got any electric, rock or ice types?

An electric. The others aren't type advantages but I have enough without disadvantages that I can make it work, if I'm careful.
